1 - Overview

When entering vehicle information, there are a few basic formatting rules that help to keep the information consistent throughout our database.

Formatting

1. All colors need to be listed in full caps in both the wiring section and the notes section. All other description, location, and note information is standard text, grammar, punctuation. Capitalize the first letter of sentences, etc. Acronyms are always full caps, etc.
2. Asterisks must be used in increments of one(and starting at one) from top to bottom when indicating notes. If more than one asterisk indication is made on the same line, they must be used in increments of one from left to right. Make sure to use the correct number of asterisks and do not duplicate asterisks in the tech notes section.
3. Note numbers must be led by a "#" sign. In the notes section, note numbers must be followed by a hyphen and a space. The should then be followed by See title of diagram Diagram.
4. When entering information, avoid using slang terms like "hook up", "stick to", etc.

Wire Polarity

(-) Negative Pulse Wire
(+) Positive Pulse Wire
(-) > (+) Reverse Rest at Ground
(+) > (-) Reverse Rest at Positive
(- MUX) Negative Multiplex (Ground thru resistor value)
(+ MUX) Positive Multiplex (Positive Voltage thru resistor value)
(- N.C.) Negative Normally Closed (Ground at rest and opens when triggered)
(+ N.C.) Positive Normally Closed (Positive Voltage at rest and opens when triggered)

Wire Colors

Violet in place of Purple
DK for Dark
LT for Light
Striped Wires are separated by a Forward Slash ( / )
Dots are separated by a Forward Slash ( / ) Dots
Example: Red/Black/Silver Dots = Red wire with a Black strip and Silver Dots

Wire Locations

When connector information is listed in the location field it should be formatted as follows;

wire location, connector color connector total pins (abbreviate "Connector" to "Conn."), wire pin number.

Example: At BCM, black 20 pin connector, pin 12

NOTE: Enter wire location info ONLY. DO NOT enter related component information.

Example: INCORRECT: At BCM behind glove box, black 20 pin connector, pin 12 CORRECT: At BCM, black 20 pin connector, pin 12

- The BCM location "behind glove box" should be entered under the vehicle's Components tab
